Rabbi Leiby Burnham

Rabbi Leiby Burnham's pic

R' Leiby Burnham, LMSW, is a Rabbi, psychotherapist, and writer. He lives in Detroit with his wife (an ICU nurse, who is on strict orders not to "bring her patients home”) and their three daughters, Orah, Shifra, and Rachel.

R' Burnham works for the Jean and Theodore Weiss Partners in Torah program of Yeshiva Beth Yehudah, where he does community outreach, and runs Jewish educational programs at the Wayne State, and Oakland University.
He taught learning-disabled high school students for eight years in NYC, while receiving Rabbinical training at Shor Yoshuv Institute, and obtaining his Masters in Social Work from Yeshiva University. To round out his Jewish communal experience he spent five years working with at-risk youth in NYC, and six years volunteering for Chai Lifeline, a pioneer in social support for Jewish children suffering from serious illness.

Other than studying and teaching, Rabbi Burnham loves snowboarding, talking "the market," and playing basketball. During off hours he can be found typing furiously on his laptop, churning out articles, newsletters, and short essays. However, more than anything else, he enjoys spending time with his wife and children, doing nothing, everything, or a little of each.
