Rabbi Zev Kahn

Rabbi Zev Kahn is Director of JET - Jewish Education Team - an independent, non-profit outreach organization that provides Jewish educational programs to hundreds of students on campuses throughout Illinois.

JET’s mission is to inspire, energize and educate Jewish college students so they can develop a stronger connection to their Jewish heritage, the Jewish people and the land of Israel; to instill pride in the vitality of the Jewish mission; and to create Jewish leaders.

Rabbi Kahn coordinates monthly downtown JETnet lunch-and-learn sessions, which present nationally known Jewish personalities who speak on contemporary issues. He publishes a quarterly magazine, Chicago Jewish Spirit and teaches Mussar (Jewish spiritual growth) to both college students and adults.

Rabbi Kahn is well known in the Chicagoland area as the “Rugby Rabbi” from his days
as a former Maccabiah Games gold medalist. Born in Cape Town, South Africa, Rabbi Kahn came to Chicago after spending six years studying at Ohr Somayach, an advanced Torah learning institute in Jerusalem. While at Ohr Somayach, Rabbi Kahn received his ordination and helped lead various learning programs for college students.

Applying his rugby experience to his current position, Rabbi Kahn believes strongly that commitment and teamwork are indispensable to success. “If we work together, each with his or her unique talents, our Jewish future will be assured.”

Rabbi Kahn and his wife, Hilary, a native of Los Angeles, live with their four children in West Rogers Park.
